How Walkalongway came about

Colin has been running Walkalongway for the last 16 years, and with Anita for the last 12 years.

Back in 2008, I had a job but in my spare time I took friends and family out on guided walks around West Wales, and especially the amazing Pembrokeshire Coast Path, Within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
They said, you should charge for this….

One day, out of the blue, I had a phone call from visit Wales (to this day I do not know why, or how they called me) and asked if I could move luggage for a group of journalists starting in Swansea – out to St, Davids – then up to Aberystwyth. I said sorry don’t what you are talking about.

Anyway, curiosity got the better of me, and I spoke to Jill and Tosh, who owned Argo Villa B&B in St, Dogmaels. They knew what I was on about and explained how companies who sell long distance walking trips would ask them to move luggage from there, where walkers have been staying to their next accommodation. In this case it would be from St, Dogmaels to Newport (Pembs). Jill said they had been doing it but it takes time out of there day.

So they said I should give it a go, as luck would have it no one else was doing this service, so I rang a couple of companies, and I also rang Visit Wales and did the transfers for the journalists.

The first year I moved about 200 pieces of luggage, talked to more of the walking companies and over the next few years Walkalongway grew and grew.

Moving luggage for 12 different companies, as well as people booking directly with us.

We now move around 5,000 bags in a season.

In 2015, I left my job and Walkalongway has kept me, my wife Anita and son Ross busy ever since.
